Entertaiment is a broad term, covering anything that provides pleasure, diversion or amusement, from reading the daily crossword puzzle to attending a major theatrical production. It can be viewed as having a serious purpose, such as a religious festival or ceremonial event; or it may simply be an aesthetic enjoyment in the form of art, music or dance. The word is derived from the Latin inter tenere, with the prefix inter meaning “inside” and the suffix tenere meaning to hold.
